Presentations on emotional intelligence

Reuven Bar-On delivers presentations, including keynote addresses, on various aspects of emotional intelligence at conferences around the world. He has also participated in a number of workshops, seminars and panel discussions related to this field. From time to time, Dr. Bar-On is also asked to conduct in-house discussions by various public and private organizations that wish to understand more about emotional intelligence, its importance and how they might apply it. The following are examples of EI presentations that he continues to deliver quite frequently:

  • “What Is EI, Why Is It Important and How Is It Applied?”
  • “The Impact of EI on Raising and Educating Children”
  • “Educating People to Be Emotionally Intelligent”
  • “The Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Occupational Performance”
  • “The Impact of EI on Leadership and Organizational Productivity”
  • “The Impact of EI on Physical Health and Its Application in Healthcare”
  • “The Impact of EI on Psychological Health and Its Application in Healthcare”

Consultation on designing EI projects

Based on detailed information collected from prospective clients regarding their desire to apply EI, Reuven Bar-On provides consultation on how best to set up a proposed project in the most effective and efficient way possible. His recommendations range from the very basic guidelines (such as what type of information to collect, how much, from whom, when and how to collect it) to the development of very detailed research designs. Dr. Bar-On explains to the client not only what needs to be done by whom and how, but also takes a more active role in participating in research projects from time to time.

Pre- and post-intervention EI analysis

Prior to beginning a group training program to enhance EI and/or developing a star performer analysis and creating an EI model (see below), Reuven Bar-On analyzes the group results based on EQ-i scores generated by the client’s employees. He then summarizes the key findings, describes the implications of these findings and how they might be used by the client.

After the completion of a group EI intervention program, Dr. Bar-On analyzes the group results based EQ-i scores generated by the client’s employees a second time. He then compares the post-intervention EQ-i scores with the above-mentioned pre-intervention scores to assess the degree to which EI has increased as a result of the program. He summarizes the key findings, describes their implications and makes recommendations for sustaining achievements made as a result of the intervention. A formal report is then submitted by Dr. Bar-On to the client.

EI model development for hiring, training and succession planning

Reuven Bar-On applies multivariate statistics to build regression models that profile organizations’ star performers and creates EI models used to hire, train and promote those employees who have the greatest potential for high performance. Typically, the EQ-i scores generated from a pre-intervention group assessment (see above) provides the EI data for creating these models; the scores are then examined for their ability to predict occupational performance based on general performance ratings that are collected from co-workers. The accuracy of this model is examined by running additional statistics. A report is written that describes the model, why it is important and valuable, what it predicts exactly as well as how best to apply it in the organization for hiring, training and promoting employees who are potentially more effective and productive. The next logical step is typically to offer an intervention program which includes individual coaching and/or group training as well as recommendations for hiring and promoting employees based on the model that was created.

Consultation on the on-going application of EI models

A logical extension of the above-mentioned service is to offer on-going consultation on who to hire and promote by comparing the candidates’ EQ-i results with those of the EI model that was created for the interested organization. Dr. Bar-On makes these types of recommendations based on the availability of his time to engage new clients.

Analysis, presentation and publication of results from EI studies

As an additional service, Reuven Bar-On recommends how to present, discuss and/or publish findings that have emerged from research projects or the application of EI in various settings. He explains what the key findings are, their importance and implications as well as possible applications. These recommendations are typically acknowledged as follows: “Dr. Reuven Bar-On reviewed the findings of this study, and these are what his conclusions are…”).  He not only offers recommendations on how to present and publish results from studies that have examined various aspects of emotional intelligence, but Dr. Bar-On also takes a more active role in these activities, from time to time, upon request and availability of time.
